Overview

This Weekender Tour is 2 days and 2 nights of Tasmanian Mountain Bike Awesomeness! Ride breathtaking and well-crafted trails on Mount Wellington, the maze of mountain bike madness at the Meehan Range, South Hobart’s hidden network of amazing trails and Maydena’s world class gravity trails.

In Hobart you will be accommodated in quality AirBnB’s and shuttle to the trail heads in a late model 14 seater Toyota Hiace with a custom made enclosed, lockable bike trailer. As well as riding, you will have opportunities to experience some of Tasmania’s amazing wilderness, food and cultural attractions.

 

Itinerary

This itinerary is an example of what you could do but you are not limited to it. Your plane arrival time will also be a factor as to what we ride first and when.

Night/Evening of arrival

Plane arrives at Hobart Airport. You will be greeted by Phil or Roger at the oversize luggage pickup point. We will take you (and your bike if bringing your own) to your accommodation. Assemble bike and we will then be available to take you to a suitable place for dinner or drinks before retiring for the evening back at your accommodation-or stay out and enjoy Hobart’s nightlife.

Day 1

8am: We will all meet for a hearty breakfast at Ginger Brown (one of Hobart’s best Cafes) in South Hobart underneath the picturesque Mount Wellington.

Ride one: We take you to the top of Mount Wellington to take in the views (clouds permitting) before driving down to ‘The Springs’ to commence riding the North-South track (approx 12km). This purpose built trail is suited to riders of moderate ability but has lots of extras for those wanting greater challenges. The forest, views and riding terrain are constantly changing and few go home disappointed! The trail concludes at the Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park. We will rack the bikes, grab some morning tea and shuttle back up to the Springs for another awesome ride.

Ride 2: Starting at the Springs again, we will ride to Junction cabin before descending down to ride some of Phil’s local trails in South Hobart (SOHO). Rack the bikes.

Lunch at a local cafe or bakery

We will then ride to the eastern shore to do another couple of trails.

Ride 3: We will probably ride Corkscrew. A more challenging Blue Trail with a steep and technical climb (sorry, it’s the only way up!). At the top we will ride out to ‘Cliff Top’ for a spectacular view across the Derwent River to Hobart and Mount Wellington.

Ride 4: Lots of options but the Clarance XC descent might be a great trail to finish on as it takes us back to the bus.

Evening Return to accommodation for a well earned shower before heading into Hobart for dinner, drinks and entertainment (or back for an early night if you are exhausted from the days riding).

Day 2

Maydena 

Maydena Gravity Mountain Bike Trails: 7.30am we will pick you up from your accommodation. We will have breakfast at a designated cafe or bakery before we head west deep into the Derwent Valley (approx 1 1/4 hours) to Australia’s newest Mountain Bike Trails. These trails are privately owned and a $80 day up pass is required and included in your tour price. (check out Flow Mountain Video for details).

The park opens at 10am and closes at 4pm. You can expect to get 4-6 runs in depending on your ability and fitness. The uplift takes around 1/2 and hour and you could expect roughly the same for your descent. Great lunches are available for purchase there.

We will then return to Hobart to drop you off either at your accommodation or the Hobart airport.
