  • 11 km adventure ride with a good variety of trails, suited to intermediate level MTB riders.
  • Trail starts at The Springs, on Mt Wellington. 720m above sea level.
  • Finishes in South Hobart near Cascades Brewery. 550m of vertical elevation.
  • Descending trails are connected by fire roads, expect some climbing in between descents.
  • All the trails on our suggested route are sanctioned by Hobart City Council and have signage at the head of each trail. The connecting fire trails are also signed.
  • Duration of the activity: including set up, shuttle to The Springs, minimum 2.5+ hours.
  • Multiple options for adapting the route, alternative trails, and loops.
  • After the ride, if further shuttles aren't an option, there are climbing trails.

Booking Confirmation Process

  • Once our staff receive your online booking, we check our hire bike fleet to make sure we have an appropriately sized bike for you.
  • Shortly after booking, you'll receive an email with a booking update.


Booking for Tomorrow's Tour?

  • Online bookings must be submitted before 7 pm.
  • If it's after 7 pm, please email or text your enquiry.
    We monitor emails after hours, so it's likely you'll get a response.

Tour Summary

  • Your adventure starts with a minibus shuttle from our office in South Hobart to Mt. Wellington.
  • The drive to the trailhead (The Springs) takes about 20 mins. 
  • The Springs is where the ride begins (unless you've opted for the shuttle to drop you at the summit of Mt. Wellington).
  • At The Springs you'll find the Lost Freight Cafe and public toilets.
  • The first trail is clearly signed, and our staff will point you in the right direction.
  • Then, you'll disappear into the serenity of Mt. Wellington's temperate rainforest.
  • Approximately 11 km later, you'll emerge from the forest on the outskirts of South Hobart.
  • At the end of the ride, if further shuttles aren't an option, there are climbing trails.
  • Hire bike to be returned before 4 pm.
  • When you're ready to return the bike, it's a 10-minute easy pedal from the Cascade Brewery to our office.


Option: Shuttle to the Summit of Mt Wellington

  • When you book, you can opt to take the shuttle to the summit, it's an extra 10 minutes drive from The Springs. 
  • At 1270 m above sea level, the summit's 360 degree views and sub alpine landscape are just stunning.
  • When you're ready to leave the summit, ride down the summit road to The Springs. It's an exhilarating 6 km descent, with more amazing views.
  • In no time at all, you'll be at The Springs, ready for a quick coffee and on to the trails.

The Scott Genius 940 is an ideal bike for Mt. Wellington trails; competent climber and very capable on the rowdy stuff and steeper descents.
The bike is fitted with premium components, for a reliable and confidence inspiring ride.

Dual Suspension E-Mountain Bike

Very capable all mountain bike. The long travel and premium components will tackle any trail on the mountain.
The motor takes away the pain of tough climbs and the impressive battery life will ensure you can enjoy a long day in the saddle. 
Avanti E-Hammer LT2: 625 watt Bosch motor. Dual suspension, 160 mm travel, 29 inch wheels, dropper seat, Shimano brakes, SRAM drive chain. and a long day on the bike.

  • We provide riding helmet, gloves, basic bikes tools, and a spare tube.


Navigating The Trail

The full 11 km ride is a sequence of 6 descending trails, connected by fire trails

The bike trails and fire trails are all signed.

Without a map or a local to show you around, navigating the trails for the first time may be challenging.


Online Trail Map On Your Phone

We advise using an online trail map, accessible through a web enabled mobile phone.

Our preferred online trail map solution is the website Trailforks.com, or its mobile phone app.

Trailforks works like Google Maps, but for mountain bike trails. You have real-time GPS tracking and trail information at your fingertips.

How Much Time For This Activity?

  • Bike set up and trail briefing: 30 mins
  • Shuttle ride to The Springs is 20 mins (shuttle to the summit is 30 mins).
  • Allow 60-90 mins for the ride from The Springs into South Hobart (Cascade Brewery).
  • Option for more riding.


Itinerary

  • Meet at our office, 473 Macquarie St, South Hobart. 
  • Get fitted to your bike, receive helmet, gloves. 
  • Have a chat with our staff about the trails.
  • Hop aboard our shuttle bus, head up Mt Wellington.
  • Ride trails!
  • Hire bike to be returned before 4pm.


What to Wear / Bring

  • Suitable riding clothes. Mount Wellington is well known for changeable weather conditions, so please dress appropriately and be prepared for anything! 
  • Gloves are useful, especially if it's a bit cooler. We have a selection of gloves at the office, if required.
  • A small backpack is advisable for carrying any extra clothing, snacks etc.
  • Water and snacks - all the bikes are fitted with water bottle holders.
  • Mobile phone. If the weather is wet, a small plastic ziplock bag is great for keeping your phone dry.


Useful to Know

  • There is a great cafe opposite our office, Ginger Brown. Delicious coffee, breakfast, and lunch.
  • It's a 25-minute walk from the city centre to our office.
  • Parking - on weekends there is plenty of free parking close to our office. Monday to Friday, there is usually free on-street parking on nearby Washington St.
  • The oldest operating brewery in Australia, Cascades, is a 15-minute walk from our office.

Waiver

For the safety of all tour participants, we require everyone to sign a waiver before arrival. We've made the process easy and convenient for you by providing a 100% online waiver form. Once you've made your booking, you'll receive an email from us with a link to the online waiver form. We kindly ask that you complete the form before your scheduled tour.


Cancellations

Customers can cancel their booking without incurring any charges up to 24 hours prior to the tour start time. Cancellations made within this specified period will receive a full refund, less a booking processing fee.
If a cancellation is made after the allowed cancellation period, a cancellation fee will be applicable. The cancellation fee will be 50% of the total booking amount.
Customers who cancel within the permitted cancellation period can expect their refund to be processed within 7 business days after the cancellation request is received.
Customers may request modifications to their booking, e.g. date change, without incurring any fees, subject to availability. However, such modifications must be requested at least 24 hours before the scheduled tour start time.
In the case of delays or unforeseen emergencies, we understand that plans can be disrupted. We will make every effort to accommodate changes to your schedule under these circumstances. Please contact our office as soon as possible to discuss any necessary adjustments.
If a customer fails to show up for the tour without prior notice, it will be considered a no-show. No-shows are not eligible for a refund, and the full booking amount will be charged.
To cancel a booking, customers must contact our customer support team via phone or email. Please provide your booking details and the reason for cancellation.
